Beautiful Vagrant

My friend George Divoky, during his last trip to Cooper Island, Alaska, found a male Black Throated Blue Warbler deceased near a nesting box. This bird was thousands of miles from it's normal migratory path and according to data, its species had never been recorded so far north. A beautiful vagrant, he said. I agree.

Who knows why their complex navigation systems go awry - storms, lights, a misread of the earths magnetic fields - but the fact that these small, hollow boned creatures migrate such distances is a marvel.
